First Time Getting a Massage at Home
Your first time booking a massage at home comes with a lot of questions. What do I wear? Where does the table go? Do I need to make conversation? Is it weird?
It is not weird. By the end of this post you will know exactly what to expect from start to finish.
What Happens When I Arrive
I pull up to your house at your scheduled time. I carry in a professional massage table, a face cradle, and my supplies. The whole setup takes about five minutes.
While I am setting up, we will have a quick conversation. It goes like this:
- Any injuries, surgeries, or areas I should avoid?
- What kind of pressure do you like? (Light, medium, deep, or “I will tell you as we go.”)
- Do you want music or silence?
That is the intake. It takes two minutes. Then I step out of the room or turn around, you get on the table under the sheet, and we start.
What to Wear
Whatever you are comfortable with. Most people undress to their comfort level and get under the sheet. Some people keep underwear on. Some do not. Either way is completely fine and completely normal.
You are always covered with a sheet during the session. I only undrape the area I am working on, one section at a time. If you have never had a professional massage before, the draping is thorough and intentional. You will not feel exposed.
If you would rather stay fully clothed, I can work through clothing. The session focuses more on stretching and compression instead of gliding techniques, but it absolutely still works.
How to Communicate During the Session
Short version: say what you are thinking.
“Can you spend more time on my neck?” Perfect.
“That spot is tender, go lighter there.” Absolutely.
“I am good, you can go deeper.” Done.
You do not need to narrate the whole session. But if something feels too intense, not intense enough, or if you suddenly realize your left hip has been bothering you all week, just say it. I would rather adjust ten times than have you lie there uncomfortable.
Some people talk through the whole session. Some people fall asleep in the first ten minutes. Both are great. There is no wrong way to do this.
What Sheets to Have Ready
I bring the table and supplies. You provide:
- One fitted sheet (twin size). This wraps around the massage table.
- One flat sheet to drape over you during the session.
- One pillowcase for the face cradle.
Old sheets are fine. Dedicated “massage sheets” are ideal if you want to keep your nice ones oil-free. A basic twin sheet set from any store works perfectly.
Have them out and accessible before I arrive. It keeps the setup quick and gets you on the table faster.
Tipping
Tipping is not required. Ever. The price you see on the booking page is the full price for the session.
That said, tips are appreciated. If you feel like your session was great and you want to show it, that is always welcome. The standard range is 15 to 20 percent, same as a spa. But there is zero pressure and zero expectation. I will never make it awkward.
After the Session
When the session ends, I will let you know and step out. Take your time getting up. There is no rush. Some people lie there for another minute or two, and that is fine.
I will break down the table and pack up while you get yourself together. The whole breakdown takes about five minutes. I will check in before I leave to make sure you are feeling good, answer any questions, and head out.
Then you lock your front door and you are done. No driving. No checkout counter. No upsell on a membership you do not want.
Rebooking
If you want to book again, you can do it right from your phone while you are still lying on the couch. The online booking system shows real-time availability and lets you pick your next session in under a minute.
A lot of first-time clients book their second session within 24 hours. Not because I pressure them. Because they finally understand what they have been missing.
Getting a massage at home for the first time feels like a big step. It is really not. You provide the space and the sheets. I provide everything else. About three minutes into the session, you will forget you were ever nervous.
